And yes, we have all said, “Well that hasn’t worked out any cheaper.”
If onlywe had stuck with the bottle with the well-known liquid that has the catchphrase of, “Now hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face,” in the long term we would have saved ourselves some money. That is false economy for you… rips you off every time.
But we have only wasted 70p… what about wasting over £300 million pound (not forgetting the additional £58 million Management Fee) on something that is as about as good as that cheap bottle of washing up liquid and as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Yes well that is what our Government did, they paid G4S a whole pile of money to keep us secure at the Olympics and guess what.. we have had to resort to bringing in the Army, Police and I reckon anyone standing on a street corner might even be roped into security.
It wasn’t until today, when I was searching something, I noticed this tweet:
Hang on a minute, are they saying, that we could have employed all those coppers for one year for the same price they paid G4S.
Now I fully understand that people wouldn’t want to spend that kind of money on 1500 officers only to have to lay them off at the end of the year.
But, how about Police Community Support Officers, couldn’t we have employed them on a 1 year fixed-term contract?
We could have easily employed them 3 months before the Olympics, they could have provided security for the entire duration of the Olympics and then they could have returned to normal PCSO duties.
Now isn’t that a sensible way of doing this?
There would have been no problems with vetting, because the Police could have done the vetting themselves.
There would have been no problems with uniforms going missing or people failing to turn up because they had got another job.
There would have been none of this negative publicity surrounding the games that is hitting internationsl newspapers.
And those employed would have been paying taxes… instead of having to sign on the dole like they will do after the Olympics have gone and finished. And who knows maybe, just maybe, our economy will have picked up and the Police Forces might even be in a position where they could have extended their contracts. Everyone is a winner… aren’t they?
But hold on a minute… I doubt Lord Reid of Cardowan would have been impressed with that set-up, after all he is a Director of G4S Regional Management (UK & Ireland) Limited (security solutions; risk management), as per his Parliamentary Biography.
Anyway if all else fails we can always sing along to G4S signature tune…
You love your job and the people too
Making a difference is what you do
Consider all you have at stake
The time is now, don’t make a mistake
‘Cause the enemy prowls, wanting to attack
But we’re on the wall, we’ve got your back
So get out front and take the lead
And be the winner you were born to be
Calling G4S, Protecting the World
G4S, so your dreams can unfurl
24/7 every night and day
Our warriors stand ready so don’t be afraid
Calling G4S, securing your World
G4S, so let your dreams unfurl
We’re guarding you with all our might
Keeping watch throughout the night
Our mission is to maintain the peace
But make no mistake, we’ll face the beast
We’ll back him down, make him run
We’ll never leave our post ’til the job is done
